Module 11- Video Reviews

1.       Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.

                  -The reason I chose the movies expressionism and the impact of Cubism because       these two periods of style are the most interesting to me.

 

2.        For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

-I learned that in The Expressionism that space and time are no longer a factor is this art. That the art is all about emotions which was shown by the feeling or more often by the expressions that the artist portrayed in the piece of art. Like in Munch portrait of faces are pure expressionless and are mostly like masks to depict this emotion. This style also questioned the value of the Conservationist society because it actually have a picture of how the society really was going. Color was the sense of nature, and nature has it own sense of direction and value, they needed to be separate of each other. Like in the painting of the Blue Horse by Marc obviously horses are not blue but Marc wanted society to see the beauty of the horse without the true colors.

- I learned in the Impact of Cubism video that patterns were produced with human impressions. One artist was saying he used spiritual elements from the imagination. He said that they use abstract things and turn them in concrete or moving general things into particular thing. For example he turns a cylinder into a bottle not the other way around. The connection with tradition is very important in this style of art. Also the emotions are depicted in such an abstract way to try to bring out the inner sound like in music is what the artist said. Displacement also was big in Cubism- looking for the inner voice or sound, a very abstract piece of art and making it something of your own on how to feel about it.

 

3.       How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

-The reading and the videos really reinforced each other on both of these videos. The videos showed in both the history of how the art style came about with what artists and how it was viewed in the societies.

 

4.       What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?

-          I enjoyed both of these films because, when a certain style is described a work of art is represented and shown so that I get a image so that it helps to be able to depict what they the meaning of the styles are.
