Video: Abstract Expressionism and Pop: Art of the ’50s and ’60s
Video: Uncertainty: Modernity and Art
1.
Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
The reason why I selected both of these movies because they both are about uncertainty art. Abstract art is interesting to me to learn how different artists approach the creation aspect of the art work. Then to see the artworks explanation in the words of the artists, I like to see if I have the same outlook on that piece of work as well.
2.
For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
The keys concepts that I learned in the Abstract Expressionism and Pop: Art of the ’50s and ’60s videowas the meaning of expressionism. The style and color of the painting creates the subject matter. No matter if the color was bright and of a person portrait or if the color was light and the art was so obscure you can only imagine what the arists was trying to create. In the 1960 the landscape was so important but I could hardly tell whether it was landscape or just another image in the art work. Abstract expressionism was the most influential style for modern art. The way that John created a new “flag” image like we have never viewed before, encaustic used this method of brush stroke. He said is this the abstract notion of the current flag. Also he used different colors to express different aspects like in maps to use blue where green land would be most appropriate. This type seduces the eyes. Pattern was also important it was just something that the artists just felt like doing.
The key concepts that I learned in Video: Uncertainty: Modernity and Art video was that something broke 100 years ago and modern art was created. I learned that in the early year art was inspirational and idealized and now the art works in the modern society it is all about changing values. What used to be called obscure which was not accepted in the prior years in this modern world just that is promoted now. Abstract expressionism was all about values/morals now those are also out of the question now it is just random.

How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
Both of these videos relates to the text very well, the abstract expressionism was explained in the text as something that was developed because of so many changes happened in the world like the world war2.Also this is a thought of the uncertainty of art video, because so many changes that have occurred the artists created modern art in regards to what we are as people. I believe that the uncertainty was a perfect concept that is defined to abstract modern art.
4.
What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
My opinion of both of these videos was that they went so far into depth with the description of the types of modern art and how the artists became interested with the art works in general, I looked at the historical artists work to see where that artist was coming from. I was very interested to that aspect, to view to previous works of art to now the current modern art helped me understand the readings and the art concepts.
