Module 9 Video Reviews

Videos Review:Albrecht Dürer: Image of a Master and Leonardo da Vinci: The Mind of the Renaissance

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
The reason why I selected these two videos was because I have started to like what da Vinci works of art and also the Renaissance is very interesting with all the new changed.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Albrecht Durer video is all about landscape and the new techniques of steel engraving which is engraving on copper.
da Vinci video was all about him being so multi faced that he helped develope the Italian Renaissance.
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos related to the text by describing the Italian Renaissance with Leonardo da Vinci and other. Also the Religious aspects of both films were brought out as such an important aspect of artwork.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
My opinion of the films were that they were in depth and to the point. I think that the Albrecht was more interesting because it was a new person to me and the Renaissance I think is so different that I enjoyed it alot.

Module 9 Art Making/ Material Exploration:Exploring Line

Drawing of Hands

1. It was kinda neat looking at my own hands as the subject. It made me look at all the strange lines that are on the palm of my hands
2. I used a pencil as my media for this project, because I think that pencil give a more defined representation of what I am drawing.
3. It felt very uncomfortable to use my non dominant hand, even though I used to be able to write very well with my left hand because my arm was broken when I was younger. I didnt feel like I had control over what I was drawing with my left hand.
4. The left hand is very hard handed I couldnt hardly shade or make the color light it was just one dark shade. My right hand I could make a rounded shape for my fingers and I could shade easier. I do believe that these are successful just not very pretty.
5. No I would not consider using my non dominant hand I have no control over how it comes out.

Module 8- Video Reviews

1. Explain why you selected the video you choose from the selection listed above.
The reason why I picked this movie because I like to see the correlation between religion and art.

2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
The "More human than human" key terms was exaggeration of human images.Exaggeration was used in early art but it was used for a specific reason. It was because of the culture is "indeed king" and the statues and sculptures that were created because this is how they saw there society. The order and precision of Egypt was all over everything they created because they wanted it to last forever.
The movie "beyond the classical: Byzantine and Later Greek Art"- icons were explained that this influenced contemporary art. I also learned that the icons were used to develop the painting of this period.

3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
"More human than human" related to the text by reinforcing why the life life statues were made so realistic. They believed that gods were human bodies so this is why they wanted the human body to be so precise.
and that even the human body has evolved over the centuries.
"beyond the classical: Byzantine and Later Greek Art" related to the text by explaining that the church was a huge influence and starting point of the paintings.

4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
I liked both of these films they gave more of an explanation of the meanings of the terms in the sense of how it was used in the ancient days and how it has changed in the development of the art as of today.

Module 7-Video Reviews

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
The concepts that were discussed in prairie style as are follows; the connections between nature and the structure, also with the person whom is going to reside in the structure.the nature connection is to make it feel like the structure belongs there. That the structure came from nature is what all the architects kept emphasizing.
The concepts that were discussed in Frank Gehry:architecture as art, the fact that the structures are a resemblance of the ancient buildings just with little twists of modern ideas. These structures are open and much thought is put into them.
2.How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos related to the text by exposing with each architect that this is a well thoughtful process these people do, and with the influence of previous structure they try to become better for the individuals and for nature as well. The quality of there work is what they are striving for, like in the videos these structure looked like they were built yesterday but it was in the 1800's. the ideas from modern life and incorporating it in to the structures is also a must.
3.What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of Architecture?
I really liked the films, I liked the prairie the best because it was straight to the point. The other video really dragged on and repeated itself a lot. But however it did go in depth about why current architects believe this talent is art.
4.Why did you choose the films that you watched?
I selected the first movie because it was shorter in length and also I had no idea what prairie style homes looked like so I wanted to learn something unfamiliar to me.
I also selected achitecture is are because I have never heard of frank Gehry before so that was a new person, also I wanted to see the rational behind why this talent is considered art.

Module 6- Projects Peer Reviews

Assigned Review: http://saharathegreat.blogspot.com

Personal Pick: http://justuscr01.blogspot.com/

1. When looking at Project #1: (Elements and Principles), did you agree with the element or principle the artist listed with the images? Did you see other elements and principles in the images?
I agree with all of the images in project one for both projects. Everyone has there own perspective on each definition and how they internalize the meaning, so a couple I could see being interlinked with other elements/principles but none I couldn't see being used correctly.

2.When looking at Project #2: Where there any images in the Peer Blogs the same as your own? If yes, what were they? Where the reasons the image was selected the same or different as your own?
None of the images in both individuals were the same as mine. These two had very abstract images that you really had to interpret into what the artist is conveying. In both blogs they list why they were interested in the images and it was for the person interest which were the same as what I put as well.

3. Where there any images that your Peers selected that pique your interest now? If yes, what are they and what is your connection with them? What would you want to know about them?
In Sahara's blog in the Art museum I liked her Black Friday image. I would have a different perspective as I am the one shopping on that day not working and seeing all the people. I know that their are a lot of people that are out that day but I don't notice the close proximity of them with me. Only someone observing would see that.

4.What do you think about  the process of reading your peers reflection? Do you find this to be a valuable in your learning?
I like to read other peoples thoughts on different images and then try to see where they are coming from. It is cool to realize oh I did not think of it that way, and then maybe next time I see something similar I will look at it differently. I believe it is valuable because no one is going to have the exact same thought as you so to have different perspectives makes me more open minded I think.

5.Check your Blog and read comments posted by your Peers. Do you find their comments helpful?
Looking at my blog comments I really appreciate the comments that were given to me. The comments that were given were helpful to keep doing what I am doing because others see where I am coming from.

Module 6- Sculpture and Ceramic Video Review

1. The first video The Eye of the Sculpture this went through the process of the rigorous of being a master sculpture. The concepts that were talked about were the following,sculptures/carvers . Sculpture is developed by clay and put through a process to become a finished product. Many of the individuals said it took them years just to finish one project. This is because they work on more than one at the same time to get fresh ideas from each piece. Sculpting originated from 17th century and is most common in Italy.
The second video glass and ceramics the concepts were just those. Glass is made out of refined sand and other raw materials added to take it hard solid shape. It was used for many things, such as stain glass in the church window which are still there today and for numerous other things of today's time. Ceramics like glass comes to existence with fire. Unlike glass this is made from clay like in the first video. This is a very long process. Clay is used to make a putty called slip, water, clay and raw materials.

2. The videos relate to the text as in both chapters 11 and 12 it states the history, process and useful ways in which carvers and ceramics are used in history and now.

3. My opinion on the videos these really did add more to the description of sculpting and crafts. I learned that the process of making even the mold could take years to develop. Sculpting is not a craft it really is an art, you need to have an open mind to everything.
